Vector
Malawi Villages
Description
Point locations or boundary extents of villages across Malawi.
Abstract
This dataset identifies the locations and spatial extents of villages throughout Malawi. A village constitutes the smallest unit of settlement and customary land administration, typically comprising several households and centered around a village headperson. Villages are grouped into Group Villages, usually under a Group Village Headman who oversees five or more villages. In customary land management, village heads and family heads play a direct role in land allocation and mediation, with unresolved matters escalated to Group Village Headmen or Traditional Authorities. This data is valuable for population distribution studies, rural service delivery planning, and understanding the granular structure of customary land tenure.
